Project No 1: Patient Adherence to hormonal Treatments (PAT) Summary:Women who are post active treatment for breast cancer take a variety of hormonal treatments, however there is evidence that some women do not adhere to their prescribed hormonal treatments. 50% of women admit they sometimes forget and 13% admit they choose not to take their hormonal treatments. The PAT study combines a large observational study with a feasibility study of a trial to test the effectiveness of a course of homeopathic treatment to improve adherence. The observational study will collect information about patient adherence to hormonal treatments by means of three postal questionnaires. Evidence suggests that treatment by a homeopath reduces side effects of hormonal treatments. Embedded within the observational study, is a study to test the feasibility of a trial to assess the effectiveness of a course of treatment by a homeopath on reducing side effects of hormonal treatment thus improving adherence rates to hormonal treatment. Knowing this will be useful in terms of PR, identifying and justifying future avenues of research.
